Target Description: mSlo maxi K+ channel (Calcium-activated potassium channel subunit alpha-1) is a member of BK channel alpha subunit family and has the particularity to be regulated by both Ca2+ and membrane depolarization.BK channels have a tetrameric structure. Each subunit is the product of the KCNMA1 gene. All modulatory subunits encoded by KCNMB1, KCNMB2, KCNMB3, or KCNMB4 can associate with the tetrameric channel. MSlo plays a major role in controlling cell excitability, which regulates smooth muscle contractions, transmitter release, and innate immune system cell activation. MSlo maxi-K+ channel contributes to repolarization of the membrane potential as it exports K+ out of the cytosol.
